To honour the memory of a beloved colleague and friend, staff members from the Sainsbury’s store in Hamilton have organised a special 10K charity walk in memory of Kerry Hutchison to help raise vital funds for a local charity who offer free support to people affected by bereavement.
Kerry, from Blantyre, was a much-loved Daughter, Mum, Sister and Gran, who sadly died earlier this year.
Her colleagues at the Sainsbury’s store in Hamilton wanted to help raise vital funds for a local charity in her honour, and Kerry’s family requested The Haven
The Haven is an award-winning Scottish charity, formed in 2001 to improve the overall quality of life for adults, children & young people, families, and carers affected by a life-limiting illness and bereavement by offering practical, emotional and wellbeing support to individuals, carers, and families.
James Farquharson, Store Manager for Sainsbury Hamilton said: “Kerry was a friendly, positive person with a great sense of humour who always made you feel welcome and at ease. She worked at Sainsbury's in Hamilton for 15 years and made a lasting impact on colleagues and customers. Losing her was a blow to us all, and she is deeply missed.”
Kerry was a cherished member of the Sainsbury’s team. On Sunday 10th September 2023, friends, family, colleagues, and community members will meet at Sainsbury’s, Hamilton Retail Park at 10am and walk to Strathclyde Country Park in her memory.
James added: “We decided to do a sponsored 10K walk - which we have called ‘10k The Kerry Way’ - and will be raising funds for The Haven as they do so much, and are a greatly deserving charity.”
Over 30 colleagues, family, and friends have signed up and have already raised over an incredible £750.00 in aid of The Haven.
Paul Hayward, Campaigns and Communications for The Haven, said, “We are sincerely grateful to Kerry’s family, friends, and colleagues for organising such a lovely memorial event in her honour. From what we’ve heard about Kerry, she brought so much vibrancy and energy to every situation, and it’s evident how deeply missed she is by all.
We understand the emotional impact families and friends face when they are journeying through bereavement, or when someone in their family has a life-limiting illness. We are so very appreciative to Kerry’s family and colleagues from Sainsbury’s for deciding to support The Haven so we can continue to support even more people who need our help”.
The Haven would like to thank James, Donna Paterson (Customer Experience Manager) and the team at the Sainsbury’s store in Hamilton, Kerry’s family and friends, and everyone who has donated so far and helped to support their cause.
