A memorial event recently took place at Strathclyde Bowling Club on Saturday 23rd July 2022, organised by the family members of Cathie Lennon, who sadly passed away in 2018. The event was held to help continue Cathie’s legacy and raise funds for one of the local charities she very kindly supported.
In 2019, Cathie’s son, John, and members of the family organised the first annual memorial event with great success, however, subsequent events were delayed due to the pandemic. Thankfully, this year’s event successfully went ahead at the end of last month and received a fantastic turnout.
Cathie volunteered for local charity, The Haven, for over 10 years and helped support those affected by illness and bereavement. An active member of her local community, she was also a member of the Bowling Club, as are other members of the family.
John and Michele, son and daughter of Cathie, won the tournament in the event’s first year, which made it a very special occasion. This year’s trophy went to, Senga Law and Nan Brown – also club members - who very kindly donated their prize money, bringing the final total of donations up to an incredible £540.00.
June Torley, Business Support Manager for The Haven, said: “The Haven have very strong, fond memories of Cathie and are forever grateful and appreciative of the support from her lovely family. We are so thankful that Cathie’s legacy lives on, and look forward to next year’s event”.
The Haven would like to thank, John, Michele, Michael, the wider Lennon family (Colm, Pauline and Anne), and members of Strathclyde Bowling Club for their hospitality and hard work on the day.
A special thanks also goes to everyone who very kindly donated raffle prizes, bought raffle tickets and made donations in support of the event.
The event will take place again next year, and it is hoped that other bowling clubs will get involved to help carry on Cathie’s legacy.
