Langlands Ladies Golf Section has once again taken a significant step in supporting people affected by a life-limiting illness and bereavement by donating a total of £320.00 raised at a recent Open Day event in aid of local charity, The Haven.
The Langlands Ladies Golf Section, East Kilbride, has been running for nearly 40 years, and recently held their Tri-am Open event earlier this year at Langlands Golf Club to let more people know about what they do, and encourage more members to join.
After a fun-filled day of introducing and meeting new people, the group raised an incredible £320.00 that they very kindly donated to local charity, The Haven - an award-winning Scottish charity, formed in 2001 to improve the overall quality of life for adults, children & young people, families, and carers affected by a life-limiting illness and bereavement by offering practical, emotional and wellbeing support to individuals, carers, and families.
The Specialist Team of Haven Nurses, Co-ordinators, and Wellbeing Practitioners provide free, compassionate, uplifting, and supportive services to the whole family, the person living with the illness as well as their carer, children, young people and family members when a loved one is seriously ill or has died.
Vice Captain for Langlands Ladies Golf Section, Lyn Doran, said: “The Ladies here at Langland’s Golf Club always look forward to hosting the annual Tri-am Open event – Liz Morrison, our ladies Club Secretary, has done this for few years now and what a great job she does.
It’s a magnificent opportunity to not only to play golf and enjoy the company of ladies who love to play golf from local and a far, it also enables us to provide support to vital and local charities such as The Haven – so what better way to enable us to do this than organising a bigger golfing day, which we do every week anyway, and invite all the surrounding golfing clubs to participate in doing what we love, and give something back in return.
Since 2002, The Haven has observed countless stories of resilience, strength, and hope from clients who have benefited greatly from support services - which has only been made possible with the support from compassionate businesses and groups who want to support a worthwhile cause.
Lyn added, “I was first introduced to The Haven through my place of work, and was really warmed to the fantastic & valuable support The Haven can provide to people of all different ages and different circumstances and walks of life.
Whether its bereavement or illness they have endured, The Haven provides essentially the whole package of support not just from a practical or emotional stance but all of it, which we here at Langland’s Golf Club recognised as priceless.
On behalf of all the ladies at Langland’s, I would like to sincerely thank Paul for coming to meet us all, enjoying our day with us, and highlighting the vital support that is carried out at The Haven. We look forward to providing support in the future.”
Langlands Golf Club has been a great supporter of The Haven, and were delighted to be invited along to receive the generous donation from the Langland ladies group. The Haven team would like to say a special thanks to Lyn, the Langlands Ladies Golf Section, and everyone who very kindly donated and supported the Open Tri-am event and donated the funds raised towards their cause.
