On Sunday 5th November 2023, the Blantyre Miners Welfare hosted a Halloween ‘spooktacular’ Family Fancy Dress Event organised by local community member, Lorraine Andrews from Blantyre, who arranged an afternoon of fun and fundraising - all in aid of The Haven.
The family fancy dress event organised by long-standing supporter of The Haven, Lorraine, was a true testament to the power of community spirit, as attendees arrived in an array of creative and ghoulish costumes, from adorable pumpkins to spooky witches. Every costume brought smiles and excitement to the festivities.
Entertainment was provided on the day by Elvis Tribute Act, Paul Anthony, and Blantyre lads, Mick ‘n’ Phil, who got everyone on their feet dancing as they performed an array of classic hits.
Children’s performer, Leigh Milne, kept kids entertained with comedy, ventriloquism and balloon magic. Professional face painting was also provided by Emma Wilkie Mua – all of which had been arranged to support a good cause.
The Haven is an award-winning Scottish charity, formed in 2001 to improve the overall quality of life for adults, children & young people and families affected by a life-limiting illness and bereavement.
The charity provides free, practical, emotional, wellbeing and bereavement support to help individuals, families and carers face the future positively and with hope.
Paul Hayward, Campaigns and Communications Officer for The Haven, said: "The Halloween Family Fancy Dress Event was a heart-warming and entertaining afternoon that united people for a common cause and to help raise vital funds that will contribute directly to our continued mission of providing vital support services to those who need our help most. As the demand for our services continues to increase, community fundraising events like the one organised by Lorraine significantly contribute to the sustainability of The Haven and our ability to continue offering free, in-person, digital and telephone support to those in Lanarkshire and beyond”.
The incredible amount was raised through ticket sales, donations and raffle tickets. Every penny will directly benefit The Haven’s ongoing efforts to provide support and hope to those who need it most.
Paul added: “We understand the time and preparation it takes to organise an event of this scale, so we really do appreciate all the hard-work, dedication commitment from Lorraine and everyone involved who made sure the event was a great success. Their commitment and enthusiasm have made a significant impact on the lives of those facing life-limiting illnesses and bereavement. You are all a shining example of what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared purpose”.
The Haven would like to express heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in making this event a tremendous success; to Lorraine for going above and beyond to ensure that everyone had a fun-filled afternoon; to Paul, Mick ‘n’ Phil, Leigh and Emma for providing wonderful entertainment; to everyone who came along and purchased tickets; and to the Blantyre Miners Welfare for their hospitality and being so accommodating.
Thank you all!
